Gratitude, Awe and Laughter - “GAL” - are secret elixirs. These three mental states actually improve body chemistry and reverse the negative effects of chronic stress. Like a spell that conjures healing power.

We always knew these three feel good in the moment (GAL). We might not have known that gratitude, awe and laughter neutralize inflammation and by doing so, prevent health issues down the road. They extend our healthy years. And they all provide other health benefits, too.
Our brain rewards gratitude with the feel-good chemical, serotonin. So gratitude feels good right away. Gratitude also reduces anxiety, improves heart health and boosts our immune system. Being thankful increases contentment. Imagine: a train of thought with healing power!

Awe promotes social connections because it triggers the bonding hormone, oxytocin. The oxytocin creates a shared oneness, which feels wonderful. We feel safe and united with those around us who are experiencing similar feelings. Think of the joy you feel at a concert when everyone is synching to the beat. Awe generates that connection. So don’t stint on the pleasures of awe and wonder! They literally heal you while making your day special.

Let yourself laugh. Laugh often. Laugh out loud. It feels wonderful and has positive side effects. Laughter stimulates our hearts, lungs and muscles, and causes our brains to increase the endorphins that provide natural pain relief. It’s obvious, isn’t it, that laughter makes us feel better?

These three (GAL) are magical: free and natural healing powers we’re born with.
It’s awe inspiring, right?
